The Hands Behind the Project
I'm Alfredo Benítez Valero, ceramicist and interior designer. Abenval—an acronym of my name—is the project where my two passions come together: handcrafted creation and spatial design.
I was born in Barcelona, and for over two decades I worked in image, communication, and decoration within the fashion industry. During the pandemic, I discovered in ceramics a new language to connect more honestly with the material, with my surroundings, and with myself.
Trained in a traditional ceramics school in Barcelona, I’ve combined technical learning with daily practice and a deeply personal exploration of clay. From that process, Abenval was born—a project that celebrates the beauty of simplicity, nature, and function.
Abenval’s first collections, Serie Nº1 and Colors Series, explore organic forms inspired by nature and a sober aesthetic. Though different in finish—one raw and minimal, the other expressive and glazed—they share the same philosophy: to create functional, handmade ceramic objects crafted with intention and care. They are both candle holders and decorative pieces.
Each piece is unique, not only in shape or texture, but because it is individually shaped by hand—without molds or industrial processes.
I work from my studio in Valls, a rural environment surrounded by olive and hazelnut trees that is an essential part of the spirit of every piece.
In addition to the main collections, Abenval is developing new ceramic projects within the field of interior design, such as clay tables and lamps—sculptural pieces conceived to be lived with. These are original, in-house creations that explore the relationship between form, function, and material in the context of contemporary interiors.
At Abenval, I am committed to responsible production: I reuse excess materials, work with natural resources, and create in small, limited series. Every object is made to last, to be useful, and to bring warmth.
You can purchase our pieces online or through selected stockists. If you’re interested in collaborating, co-creating, or simply learning more about the project, I’d love to hear from you.
